Dan Brière

I'm explorer, photographer, and writer based between nomadic life and my home country of the United States. My travels are fueled by a passion for understanding the world beyond borders, beliefs, and big cities - and a love for finding uncommon ways to get around.

Roots of a Nomad

I moved around a lot when growing up and have always identified strongly as a nomad - in one way or another. This attitude, along with an insatiable curiosity to understand other ways of life, has led me to some far away people, places, and adventures: from spending a winter solo in the remote Himalaya to a harvest picking some of the world's best coffee on a farm in Nicaragua.

In many of my travels, I share no common language with the people I meet, but there are always ways to reach common ground. For me personally, all of my travels and photographing have a lot to do with searching for a place where I can feel that I belong.

Life on the Road

Now a full-time traveler, I aim to serve as proof that one can forge a life on the road and leave the pressures of city life behind.

In July of 2020, I left my technology career in New York and hit the road on my motorcycle: seeking answers to questions I did not yet know. (Three years later, I am still searching....)

In the time since, I have traversed the earth by sailboat, motorcycle, and foot. Traveling with these more "manual" modes of transportation has led me to lesser-known parts of the world and provided a glimpse at what lies beyond the cities and screens that I once called home.

Inspiring a Wilder World

In the extraordinary lives I encounter and document, I see a world that is vibrantly diverse and endlessly inspiring. My vision is a world where everyone is encouraged to seek out the extraordinary in their own lives, to venture off the beaten path, and to cultivate a deeper understanding of our shared humanity.

This journal serves to share my off-the-beaten-path explorations, including snapshots of the extraordinary lives I encounter. By sharing my stories, I seek to inspire people to share and pursue their wildest dreams. In doing so, I hope to foster a world that sees the bigger picture, stands united in our diversity, and draws closer when tackling the enormous challenges we face together.

“A person can find anything if he takes the time, that is, if he can afford to look. And while he’s looking, he’s free, and he finds things he never expected.”
